My Story

I Know What It's Like to Struggle with Your Health.

As a child I grew up with bad asthma, diabetes, and chronic back pain. When I was diagnosed with diabetes, I started to have different school lunches. I couldn't have what everybody else was having. The kids at school would single me out. I started to struggle with obesity and body image issues.

Slowly, I educated myself about food. I started to exercise. I did a lot of physical therapy and traditional medicine. But my chronic pain was not improving. So I would go to bed at night and cry.

I was not even 15, and my doctor suggested surgery. But it was too risky. That’s when I started taking yoga and learned new ways to care for my body and manage pain. Today, my life is totally different.

With food, movement, and nourishing habits for mind and body, I saw my quality of life radically change long term.

This is why I believe in and do what I do.

I tell my patients that a better life IS possible. And it is my joy to help them find what works for them to meet their health goals.

Who am I?

I am a daughter and a sister. I am a mom to three furry kids. I am a food enthusiast, a lover of nature, a dancer at heart, and a fitness fanatic. I am a great public speaker. I enjoy writing, and I am a bookworm. Learning energizes me and allows me to provide better care for you, my patient. I am a devoted traveler who is fond of exploring new cultures, meeting new people, and tasting great food.

Where am I from?

Boricua aunque naciera en la luna

I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. I deeply love my island, its history, and its beaches. I admire its people, the beauty of the mountains, and the richness of our food. I love the group Fiel a la Vega and still only drink Puerto Rican coffee. Pastelillos de guayaba is my favorite dessert, but I only eat them on special occasions. I carry my Puerto Rican flag in my heart. Siempre sere boricua.

Where did I learn about Healing, Medicine, and Wellness?

I completed my medical degree at the University of Puerto Rico Science Medical Campus. Afterward, I traveled to Hershey, Pennsylvania, for my Family & Community Medicine residency. While in Hershey, I participated in a Global Medicine rotation in Ecuador with INMED. Later I moved to Providence, Rhode Island, where I completed my fellowship in Faculty Development for Global Health. I learned about community health workers while in Nicaragua. After Nicaragua, I went to Texas. In Texas, I complete formal training by the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine and the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine. I also pursued additional training at the Cornell Center for Nutritional Studies and culinary medicine with Rouxbe. I completed a 200-hour registered yoga instructor program focusing on trauma with YogaFaith. I am also a certified HeartMath practitioner, an easy technique that uses the breath to increase heart rate variability.
